Design of Building Systems Is Systematically Sequenced and Interdisciplinarily Coordinated

6.2 Electrical Systems Design 6.2.1 Concept Design Phase 6.2.2 Schematic Design Phase

6.2.2 Schematic Design Phase

Electrical engineers focus on system concept development, space allocation, and infrastructure planning during schematic design. Their responsibilities include:

  • Estimating electrical loads and confirming preliminary panel sizing and locations
  • Planning riser routes, electrical rooms, and DB/SMDB/MDB positions
  • Defining the lighting concept, emergency lighting provisions, and power zoning
  • Identifying requirements for ELV systems (CCTV, data, access control, etc.)
  • Allocating space for UPS, generator, transformer, and MV equipment

The schematic design phase for electrical ensures that spatial and functional provisions are incorporated early, avoiding costly relocations in later stages.
